Students wait on either side of Nash Road as cars pass by before being able to cross.

City of Hollister and San Benito High School officials are set to host a joint meeting next week to talk about the potential Nash Road closure and other shared facility issues.
The two elected boards are set to meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Memorial Building, 649 San Benito St. On the agenda, officials will discuss Nash Road, shared facilities and tennis court lighting.
San Benito High School District officials have been pushing for the temporary closure to a portion of Nash Road near the campus.
Council members in January voted 3-2 against the idea, which required approvals from the county and high school district as well. Mayor Ignacio Velazquez and Councilman Karson Klauer were in the minority on the decision, which drew neighbors who would be affected by the proposal. Council members Victor Gomez, Mickie Luna and Ray Friend were in the majority that opposed the idea.
The idea would have closed the road between West Street and Monterey Street until a bypass could be built. As part of the agreement, the high school district would transfer nearby property to the county for its regional park idea. The county board in January approved the idea for the joint partnership project.
