HOLLISTER
The Hollister City Council is set to approve the use of federal stimulus money to reconstruct five roads in the city.
They include Hillcrest Road, between the Highway 25 and Memorial Drive; the intersection of Memorial Drive and Sunnyslope Drive; Memorial Drive south of Hillcrest Road; Meridian Street from McCray to Memorial Drive; and Nash Road from San Benito Street to West Street.
City officials chose these five roads out of about 25 possibilities because they are designated as “collector and above” – meaning they get relatively more use than other streets – and are in need of repair.
The city will be receiving $1.17 million for road reconstruction from the federal package, called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
City officials had to pick new choices after realizing the first recommendation was not eligible. Hollister’s first list of recommended projects submitted for the funds included minor repairs and pouring of asphalt overlay on various residential streets.
The city council meets at 6:30 p.m. on Monday in the chambers at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth Street in Hollister.
