Panoche solar project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is set to hold scoping meetings for the Panoche Valley Solar Project and the preparation of an environmental impact statement.

The first scoping meeting is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at Panoche School, 31441 Panoche Road in Paicines. The second is for 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Hollister.

The meetings are an opportunity for the public to identify environmental concerns. Residents can obtain information on the project and provide oral comment, according to an announcement from the U.S. Corps of Engineers.

Written comments can be mailed to the agency by Sept. 7 and should be mailed to:

The Panoche Valley Solar Project is a plan for a 399-megawatt solar farm in southeastern San Benito County. It has been approved by the county board of supervisors, while its owners hope to break ground in 2014.
