HOLLISTER
The Hollister City Council will hold a special meeting tonight to hear a report on the mid-year budget for the 2008-09 fiscal year.
City Manager Clint Quilter today, however, downplayed the potential for major action to sprout from the discussion.
“The status of the budget (will be discussed),” he said, “just revenues expenditures … just the normal stuff.”
As cities like Hollister deal with the poor economy, third-quarter sales in 2008 here dropped by 8 percent compared with the prior year, according to a report released by the city last week. The figure did not surprise officials, and Quilter also has said the Measure T sales-tax revenue for that quarter actually came in higher than anticipated.
Quilter also has said officials will be “very conservative” in light of the economy and the state budget deficit.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.
