Hollister Councilman Victor Gomez no longer owns a piece of the Papa Murphy’s pie.
After owning the local Papa Murphy’s franchise for nine years, Gomez and his wife on Monday closed escrow on the sale of their “take and bake” pizza business on Airline Highway.
Gomez has owned the local Papa Murphy’s for nine years and worked at the location for nine years before buying it.
Gomez, who is running for the District 4 supervisor’s seat this year, said he and his wife have been considering a sale for “a year or two” and that they received an offer they “weren’t really able to decline.”
Gomez also noted how he’s been working full time for a San Jose councilman and his wife has been trying to get back into the law enforcement field.
“I knew that was going to make it very hard for us to continue the business and both be in our own careers,” Gomez said.
They finished the sale this week. The new owner – whom Gomez said is a county resident – could not be reached immediately at the store.
“It’s been such a great business over the years,” Gomez said. “It’s not going to be our last. We turned a significant profit from it.”
Although Gomez said he would remain too busy this year to open a new business, he is exploring possibilities for a “larger establishment” franchise he could open in the county.
“We’re looking at the franchises and we’re also looking at location,” he said, noting his interest in areas along Highway 156.
