Annual event expected to welcome thousands of guests. Discounted tickets and fair passes now on sale

With a theme of “Red, White and Moo,” the annual San Benito County Fair will run at Bolado Park from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. Billed as a “genuine, old-fashioned county fair,” the event celebrates the agricultural roots of the county.

Discounted tickets are available prior to the event at the fair office or at Rancher’s Feed in downtown Hollister. Adult passes are $18; seniors 60 and over are $9; children 6 to 12 are $6; and parking is $6.

Passes are good for admission throughout the run of the fair. Daily admission at the gate is $8 for adults; $5 for seniors; and $3 for children.

Pre-sale carnival passes are available for $15, which gets the holder an unlimited ride wristband for Friday or a book of carnival tickets on Saturday or Sunday. These passes are available at Ace Hardware, the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce, the fair office at Bolado, Boot Barn, L.A. Hearne, Postal Graphics and Ranchers Feed.

Friday, Sept. 30 is Kids’ Day, during which children 12 and under can attend the fair for free. Oct. 1 is Senior and Armed Forces Day, during which seniors 60 and over are charged $4 for admission and armed forces members with a military identification can get in free.

Gates are open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. The carnival runs noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Friday’s featured event is the mud drags in the pavilion at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate. Saturday’s main events are the junior livestock auction at 10 a.m. and the truck pulls at 4 p.m. Fiesta Mexicana begins at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Dozens of events and performers are scheduled throughout the run of the fair, such as strolling story-tellers, circus acts, musicians and dancers. Hypnotist will make his annual appearance on the main lawn stage with two performances on each day of the fair.
