San Benito County has scheduled a workshop for residents on its general plan update.

It is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Memorial Building and will be the first one since 2007, according to an announcement from the county.

According to the announcement:

San Benito County is in the process of comprehensively updating its General Plan. The County General Plan guides future land use, economic, transportation, infrastructure, agricultural, resource, and environmental decisions. The plan will provide for orderly growth based on the community’s values and vision for the future. The General Plan Update is scheduled to take approximately three years to complete, beginning in February 2009 and concluding with adoption of an updated General Plan in January 2012.

Attendees at the workshop will hear a report on the progress of the General Plan Update, including an overview of the recently released Alternatives Report (available online at: www.sanbenitogpu.com). Participants at the workshop will be asked to take part in an interactive exercise. The exercise will ask participants to weigh in on three alternatives for future growth, agricultural preservation, and environmental protection in San Benito County.
