Editor,

I am writing in response to Mr. Smith’s column of March 19. Mr. Smith insinuates that my office handled the Brian Conroy DUI matter. This is false.

Mr. Conroy was charged with a simple DUI in July of 2002, roughly six months before I took office. He pled “no contest” and was sentenced to a reduced charge of reckless driving-alcohol related on January 2, 2003, again, before I was in office.

Mr. Smith should check his facts before he smears people with unfounded and mean-spirited innuendos.
