I was once again disappointed to see another blatant lie
published in your paper regarding my office. In Citizens Voice, an
anonymous writer claimed that I reduced Mayor Conroy’s DUI charge
after I took office. This is absolutely false.

As reported in your newspaper on Jan. 17 of this year, Mr. Conroy entered a plea of “no contest” to a charge of reckless driving-alcohol related, and was sentenced on Jan. 2, four days before I assumed office. Once a person has been convicted and sentenced, there is no longer any involvement by the district attorney’s office.
It is true that Mr. Conroy is my friend and I am proud to say so. Accordingly, as reported by your paper on Jan. 17, I had one of my deputies contact the Attorney General’s Office to handle any final stages of the matter.
John Sarsfield,
District Attorney
County of San Benito
