Greg Zazueta’s letter about Sheriff Hill and the Brady Bunch was
very informative. And as I have learned from numerous people,
accurate. Mr. Zazueta intentionally left out the names of the
deputies who allegedly committed the indiscretions and
inadvertently left out additional pertinent information.

I’ve been told that Zazueta didn’t mention the deputy who lost his job for playing golf while off on worker’s comp and was then put back to work. He also didn’t mention the deputy who filed a complaint against Sheriff Hill for allegedly threatening to kill him for allegedly passing on rumors about the Sheriff. This is a felony … so I’m told.
The deputy’s criminal report/complaint against Hill was sent to the California Department of Justice. This is the same deputy accused of holding a rape victim against her will at his house. The interesting thing is the deputy was promoted to Sergeant after filing the complaint against the Sheriff. Nothing ever came of the threat charges. Interesting how things work in San Benito County. There’s more to the story, but I’ll save it for another day.
These are just two more Brady Bunch violations for the DA to ignore while applying his double standard to his political foes. Do the words “unethical” and “sleazy” come to mind?
I was going to write about the goofy request for a gag order by the County Counsels office on behalf of the Court Jesters, but the Op-ed piece last Thursday said it all. I just wish I had thought of “court jesters” first. It fits Wei and Wagner perfectly.
In my last letter, I promised to unspin the DA’s BS when I caught him trying to mislead us. In Sarsfield’s letter to the editor, he claimed he was the only one in the DA’s Office charging crimes. News flash: Over the last three weeks, Sarsfield has put his gaggle of inexperienced, unpaid, civil attorneys and DDA’s to work charging criminal cases and now the court is inundated with questionable filings. Shame on you John for trying to “mislead” us. His figures need to be compared with the court and law enforcement agencies for crimes committed this year. At this point, I don’t believe a word he says.
Friday night Denny Wei was on Channel 8 News talking about how he and his boss, John Sarsfield, had beaten up the judge forcing him into appointing a special something or other to look into their trumped-up Brady Bunch violations. I don’t know which judge it was, but my guess is Tobias. So much for Tobias being “tough enough” to make the right decisions. The score: Run amok DA – 1, Judge – 0. San Benito injustice at its finest.
Contrary to popular opinion, I am not anti-law enforcement. I am pro “good” law enforcement. I want law enforcement that is not dictated by politics, emotion, popularity or petty jealousies. I want well-trained officers who understand accountability, responsibility, ethics, honesty, compassion, victims rights and, most of all, justice.
I want a District Attorney who shows up for court and does his job. I don’t want a District Attorney that twists the law to suit his political purposes as Sarsfield and his court jesters have done with the Brady Standard and Robert Orabuena cases. I don’t want a double-standard that gives the Sheriff and his Brady Bunch immunity. I don’t want a Sheriff who thinks he’s above the law, who has been charged and tried for beating prisoners, who allegedly threatened the life of one of his subordinates and can’t solve the theft of cocaine, money and guns from his very own evidence locker. I don’t want cold-blooded murderers returned to our streets because of a whacked out, run amok DA.
I just want good law enforcement! I want a justice system that is in fact “just.” I want judges with spines. The system is only as good as the people running it, which means we are in trouble. It’s bad enough that we need protection from the criminal element. Now we need protection from the very people we chose to lead and protect us.
The Constitution of the United States provides equal protection for all of us. I’m not asking for any more or any less. And neither should you.
