Hollister School District staff officials recommended installing lights to increase the visibility of solar structures at two campuses during a recent meeting.
The Hollister School District trustees at last week’s board meeting voted 4-0 in favor of an agreement with Donangelo Brothers Electric, Inc. to install lights on the structures at two school sites, according draft minutes of the Tuesday evening meeting provided by Jesus Romero, the administrative assistant to the superintendent. Trustee Elsa Rodriguez was absent, according to the minutes.
The cost of the agreement is not to exceed $12,500 and will be funded by the district’s maintenance fund, according to background information from the meeting agenda packet. The Calaveras/Accelerated Achievement Academy shared campus, as well as the Cerra Vista School campus have suffered from vandalism, loitering after-hours, damage to the property and disposal of items “not appropriate for children,” according to the agenda packet.
The campuses currently have solar structures that serve as an outside shade area for students eating lunch, according to the agenda packet. These structures are located at the back of the school, making them a desirable location for after-hours loitering, according to the same document.
