Hollister school officials are scrambling to make repairs following a fire earlier this month to part of the library at Gabilan Hills Elementary School.

The fire occurred Feb. 2 to part of the south side of the library at the school, 921 Santa Ana Road.

On Tuesday, the district was set to hold a special meeting to authorize up to $100,000 for the repairs. Trustees are considering the allocation at a special meeting set for 5 p.m. at the district office, 2690 Cienega Road.

Normally, the district would be required to solicit bids for a project estimated exceed $15,000 in cost, but there is an “exception to the bidding process in order to expedite a quicker repair and construction of facilities when these facilities services to our students,” according to district documents.

An insurance company will reimburse the district for all expenses except a $1,000 deductible.
