Dear Editor:
By all accounts, the 2003 Hollister Independence Rally was a grand success. The people came, saw, rode, ate, shopped and left.
To anyone running a business along San Benito Street, it must have been a great time to be in business. But there was one business in particular that, despite the great amount of money it no doubt pulled in, might find that the short-term success of the rally could result in less business from locals throughout the rest of the year, essentially mooting those rally-gained profits.
The business shall remain nameless, other than to say that it is a prominent restaurant and bar along San Benito Street.
During the weekend, this business adopted an exorbitant cover charge and some very customer-unfriendly admission policies that, to an out-of-towner, might not be a big deal as they won’t come back anyway, but to locals, it left a very sour taste that will linger on and affect their decisions throughout the year as to what restaurants and bars to patronize.
So next year, or maybe even sooner, when there might possibly be a competing restaurant and bar as close as directly across the street from this business, I know which one I will want to give my money to first, and which one to recommend over the other.
