Kelly’s Gift Place will be “absolutely closing” sometime after Christmas, the owners confirmed.

Co-Owner Todd Owczarzak said that due to the orders for 2009 merchandise having already been made, the shop at 610 San Benito St. will remain open through Christmas. He said that shoppers won’t have to shop outside of town for the holiday season.

“The point here is to liquidate our merchandise.”

Their liquidation sale started on Oct. 16, and nearly everything is on sale while some items remain at full price. Most of those items will be sold at the coffee shop. They are also having a prize-point contest, encouraging people to come into the shop. Grand prizes include a 37-inch TV, a laptop and a spa package.

Cornerstone Coffee will remain open, and Owczarzak dreams that the coffee shop will expand into the empty retail space. Currently, the shop hosts eight different Bible studies, music, readings and kids’ events and is staying true to their mantra of “A place to connect.”

“Initially, there has been a great response from the community. We are hoping for continued support,” Owczarzak said.
