John Ellis, a graduate of Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, will compete in stage two of the PGA Tour’s Qualifying Tournament this week at the Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas.

The Qualifying Tournament, also known as Q-School, is a three-stage event where golfers from around the world compete in order to earn their PGA Tour card. This year’s Q-School began with 965 golfers, and only 35 will be rewarded with a Tour card.

Ellis, who competed in stage one at Hollister’s San Juan Oaks Golf Club last year, was exempt from the first stage this year after he won the Order of Merit on the Canadian Tour Championship in September.

The second stage at Deerwood will begin on Wednesday at 8 a.m., and continue through Saturday, Nov. 15.

The third and final stage will be held at the PGA West Nicklaus Tournament Course and the TPC Stadium Course in La Quinta from Dec. 3-8.
