This may be the weekend to catch up on outside chores.

According to the National Weather Service, San Benito County will stay mostly dry and sunny through Monday.

Motorists can expect patchy morning valley fog, which will lift, leaving skies mostly sunny. Highs for the weekend will range from the upper 60s to the lower 70s with winds around 10 mph.

“The temperature range is slightly above normal,” said Carolina Horne of the NWS office in Monterey. “We’re looking at staying within the upper 60s and lower 70s range, which will continue through Wednesday. Then the highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.”

Night-time temperatures will drop to the mid 30s to the upper 40s throughout the week. But as far as rain goes, Horne said it will remain dry.

“We’re not looking at any rain for the area over the next week,” she said.

About an inch of rain has fallen on Hollister since Dec. 27, Horne said.

“So far the area has experienced slightly above normal rainfall of a half an inch more than the average .06 inches,” she said. “This will be a wet year.”

According to the Climate Center, the strength of an El Nino season is determined by the amount of warming in the ocean temperatures, which indicated that this season should be moderate.
