Congressman Sam Farr has moved a scheduled town hall meeting in Hollister from the County Administration Building to the Veterans Memorial Building while expecting a larger crowd than previously expected, his spokesman told the Free Lance.
Farr, D-Carmel, is scheduled to hold the town hall meeting at 6 p.m. at the 649 San Benito St. location, said Tom Mentzer, Farr’s press secretary. The congressman’s office changed the venue after about 700 people showed up Monday to his first of six scheduled town hall meetings in Monterey.
The press secretary noted how the Monterey Institute of International Studies room filled up about 45 minutes before the scheduled meeting and that about 200 residents were forced to stay away.
He estimated that about 50 to 75 people normally have attended Farr’s Monterey town hall gatherings, so the office expects larger crowds elsewhere as well.
The topic dominating conversation in Monterey was the proposed health care bill, while Mentzer expects the issue to remain the focus in Hollister, too.
