Local voters will get a chance to give the federal government a piece of their minds when Congressman Sam Farr holds a town hall meeting tonight.

The two-hour meeting begins at 6 p.m., at the Board of Supervisors Chambers at the county’s administrative building on 481 Fourth St.

During the meeting, Farr, D-Carmel, is scheduled to talk to residents about the current events in Washington, D.C., and how they may affect this area.

In the past, similar town hall meetings have been well attended events.

After making his presentation, Farr will answer questions from the audience on a wide variety of topics including the state of the economy, the upcoming recall election and a bill to provide $10 million for restoration and preservation projects at the state’s 21 missions, including the mission in San Juan Bautista.

“These missions are natural treasures dating back to 1769,” Farr said in a written statement. “That is why we are reintroducing the bill and asking for its quick passage.”

Farr, co-sponsored the bill with Rep. David Dreier, R-San Dimas, to help fund the preservation effort, but the bill has been stuck in committee for several months and has not made it to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote.

“I am pleased to be a part of this important effort to preserve the history of the California missions for future generations,” Dreier said.

According to the state parks statistics, the Mission San Juan Bautista and the other 20 California missions are the most visited historic attractions in the state, drawing more than 5.5 million visitors a year.
