Who runs the site: The site has no names or direct contact information on it, but the people running it are collecting photos and information to be published in a book.

Who is likely to use the site: People who are curious to see what other Americans did with their government refund or who want to post their own spending habits online.

Pros: This site started up in the last few months as checks for $300, $600 or $1,200 started arriving at the homes of U.S. residents. The goal was for these checks to get Americans out spending in a time of an economic downturn. And from the photos and descriptions posted on the Web site, it seems to be working.

On the site, users post a picture or video of themselves spending their money or what they spent it on, a description of what they did, and their name, age and location. One Texas couple spent their money on a vacation to Mexico. Another said their checks, and their parents’ checks would go to wedding expenses.

Others spent their checks on less fun things such as vet bills or attorney fees.

Users can look at the most recent postings, or they can search by category. Some of the funniest listings were under the weird category. One woman claims she took it to a casino and won $3,000. Others paid for tattoos. One guy wrote he bought a Star Wars Stormtrooper armor costume kit. Still another said he was using the money to find love on Craig’s List.

Cons: The site is amusing for a while, especially in the weird category. But I wonder how many of the postings with generic photos and incomplete names were real and how many were made up. Maybe some of the postings are just wishful thinking – kinda like the idea that giving all Americans a couple hundred bucks can stop a recession.
