Hollister authorities confiscated more than 1,000 pounds of fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend, according to a fire captain.

A large majority of the fireworks came from one Monica Court home, where authorities seized two truckloads of the illegal explosives. Another 119 pounds were confiscated by firefighters throughout the city and eclipsed last year’s total of 90 pounds, said HPD Capt. Mike O’Connor, the fire marshal.

The total is expected to climb some more as fireworks come in from law enforcement agencies.

He noted how it helped that authorities were successful in enforcing culprits “earlier in the night.”

“If you get them early, you get more (fireworks) unfired,” he said.

He pointed out that most local residents finished shooting off their fireworks earlier than previous years as well, with most done by 11:30 p.m.
