There are two upcoming fundraisers scheduled for two local boys diagnosed with a developmental ailment. The family of Emilio Martin Garcia, 3, and his brother Marcos Eli Garcia, 6 months old – both the sons of Gilbert and Allison Hurtado Garcia – is holding two fundraisers in the coming weeks.
One of those fundraisers is set for 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 6 at Dona Esther’s Mexican Restaurant, which will give back 15 percent of proceeds. Another is set for 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 12 at Ding-A-Ling Cafe, which will give back 20 percent.
The two boys have varying levels of hypotonia. Emilia also has developmental delay. Each of them was in the neonatal intensive care unit of Santa Clara Valley Medical for more than 20 days.
According to the family, the diagnosis of hypotonia means low muscle tone. It can cause delays in gross motor function such as sitting, crawling and walking, along with delays in fine motor skills such as chewing and picking up things.
