Gas prices seem to keep soaring higher each day as the average price in the Hollister area was at $3.52 this week and the state overall has reached a record high.
A year ago the average price was $2.98, said AAA spokeswoman Cynthia Harris. Just last month it was nearly 30 cents cheaper.
Gas prices in California have reached a high and people can only expect the prices to keep rising, she said.
With prices rising more often than not, some may worry about having to pay $4 per gallon. It’s hard to speculate, but it could possibly happen, Harris said. Some places in California are already charging $4.
Harris said drivers should compare prices, check tire pressure and be conscious on how you drive, and it will help save gas. If tires are one pound under-inflated, drivers could lose up to 2 percent of their gas mileage, she said.
“People are aware prices won’t go down,” she said.
Travelers are changing their plans due to gas prices, she said. More people are not traveling as far as they would if gas was cheaper and travelers don’t stay away from home as long now, she said.
Harris said to help save gas, drivers shouldn’t use their air-conditioners as much or roll their windows down while driving in town. Harris also urged people to shop around.
