Editor,
As a mid-40s professional, I was hoping that by now I would have read that the Gavilan College Board has reconsidered and extended tenure to softball coach and teacher Tim Kenworthy.
The number of accolades he and his team received was quite impressive. He was “Coach of the Year,” many of his players garnered individual awards and his team was the best in recent history. Many eligible players stated they weren’t sure that they would return if coach Kenworthy was not asked back. All this from a program that was essentially non-existent four years ago.
And for anyone who has played softball at the Gavilan field, what a difference four years has made! Fields, bleachers, dugouts and just a great venue! Quite a bit of this was accomplished by coach Kenworthy’s own sweat and dedication and the numerous community donations he strived to elicit.
He proved himself to be a diligent and conscientious instructor, too. What more could the college want than a good, competent, dedicated, conscientious teacher and a hard-working, inspiring coach who fights to get the best for his team and gets the best from his team?
It is high time that the Gavilan board issued Coach Kenworthy tenure and invite him back to continue to build what he started.
