Hollister – The San Benito girls water polo team lost 15-7 against visiting Live Oak Wednesday.

Live Oak (16-4, 6-0 TCAL) got off to a quick 5-0 lead before Hollister could find the net. And they did it all without a goal from Ronni Gautschi, who led all scorers with six goals.

“We stayed with them for a half,” said coach Derek Kisling. “But they are too quick and talented. We came into the game expecting it to be tough. But we played a good team defense.”

San Benito (14-10, 5-2 TCAL) scored a pair of goals at the end of the first period by Brandy Russell and Kathryn Adamek.

Adamek scored anther goal before half, but Live Oak scored three to take an 8-3 advantage.

In the second half, Live Oak poured it on and didn’t allow a goal until Adamek scored her third with 3:43 left in the fourth quarter. By then, the score was 14-4.

Katie Buzzetta scored three goals in the final three minutes after the Live Oak starters came out.

Danielle Maldonado made several tough saves for the Acorns. Nicole Davis had five for the Balers.”

We were down, but we didn’t let up,” Adamek said. “We were learning a new offense. Once we get accustomed to it we should do pretty good.”

San Benito plays its final game against RLS on Tuesday before the league finals.

JV Note

The San Benito JV team had a couple chances to score in the final minute against Live Oak but lost 8-7.

The goalie Michelle Dietrich had a season high of seven saves. San Benito is 10-2-1.

Elsie Tozier, Jayme Telles and Judi Sumida had goals in the first quarter. Stephanie Rodriguez and Valerie Nicolason had good defense.

In the second quarter, Jessica Temperino had the two goals for the Balers. Alex Stern had a great play on defense.

In the third quarter, Jarae Tanner got the only goal for the Balers. Megan Guella stepped it up on defense and showed aggressiveness.

In fourth quarter, the only goal for the Balers was by Tanner. Rodriguez Defense strong in this quarter.
