Who is likely to use the site: The site is a great place for musicians who are trying to break into the business to get their music heard. And it’s a great way for music fans to hear up-and-coming bands before they get their breaks.
Pros: Users sign up for an account and then create a page where they upload their original songs. They can get feedback from listeners and even collaborate with other users on projects. The best part is that users can vote for their favorite songs and those songs are put on the homepage of WeMix.
Eventually the top musicians will have a chance to work with Ludacris and compete for a record contract on television. A lot of the songs sound pretty professional and after listening to a few, it’s clear some of these guys will probably make it in the business.
The Ludacris blog is kind of fun to read, even though it really just serves as a forum for him to promote all the appearances his made in the last week.
Cons: The site is somewhat hard to search if you don’t know exactly what you are looking for. On the main page, there is the name of the song, the name of the artist, the date it was uploaded how many times its been played, how many comments it had and a basic vote of whether or not people liked it. But it didn’t say what genre the music was in, which is something that would make visitors more likely to click on some songs over others.
Still it will be interesting to see how the project turns out in the end, and which musicians make it to the TV show.
