Editor,

Analysts are criticizing Gov. Schwarzenegger for talking out about our porous border and illegal immigration rather than advancing a “thoughtful immigration policy.”

The Constitution of the United States states Congress has the sole power to establish an immigration policy. Both political parties in Congress have abdicated their responsibility for fear of upsetting the Latino voting block.

The president has advanced an ill-conceived, poorly disguised amnesty program. The amnesty to illegal aliens granted by President Reagan was one of the very few mistakes he made. It seemed like a good idea at the time. However, it only encouraged more illegal immigration.

The Minutemen in Arizona are bringing attention to the problem. The governor is correct to focus additional attention to the problem. He should be applauded as a leader, not denounced as a racist.
