In what appears to be a wide-open race for the District 2 seat on the Hollister City Council, Estevan Guzman leads fundraising efforts, bringing in more than $1,100 during the race, while the two other candidates have raised and spent next to nothing, according to campaign disclosure statements.

In the race for District 3 city council, incumbent Pauline Valdivia missed last week’s deadline to submit her required disclosure paperwork and had not turned it in as of Monday afternoon.

Hollister City Council candidates, along with others running for offices, had a 5 p.m. Thursday deadline to submit their final campaign finance disclosure statements before the Nov. 2 election. The two open seats are District 2 covering the west side and District 3 in the south-central portion of the city.

In District 2, the others running include newcomer Sergio Montanez and former Councilman Robert Scattini. Montanez submitted the Form 460, but noted raising $0 and spending $0 during the race to this point. Scattini submitted the form required when candidates raise and spend less than $1,000.

Guzman, however, continued to raise funds at a steady pace. During the recent period, covering Oct. 1 through Oct. 15, Guzman raised $849, including a $250 loan, bringing his total to $1,148 during the race, according to his statement.

His listed contributors included $250 from both the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 332 Education Fund and the United Food and Commercial Workers L.U. 5, according to his statement.
