Editor,
The topic of John Blake’s letter (The Free Lance, Feb. 17) is one that needs to be addressed, but hardly ever is: immigration.
Why does it need to be addressed? As Mr. Blake pointed out, the world population is ever growing. Closer to home, the US population grew more in the 1990’s than any other decade, with the number of new immigrants exceeding the previous high from decade of 1901-1910 (Center for Immigration Studies). With more people comes a need for more consumer goods, electricity, water, food, schools, hospitals, houses and on and on.
More people means less open space (for humans and animals), more garbage, and a less enjoyable quality of life.
