Cheating and dropping out

Dear Lindsay,

Everyone I know at school cheats and I kind of feel embarrassed to admit that I don’t. Why is it so wide spread and what can I do?

-Not a Peeker

Dear Not a Peeker,

You shouldn’t feel embarrassed at all about not cheating. Cheating does nothing for you. When you cheat, you will get one out of two possible outcomes; get it right, or get it wrong. If you get it right, then yes, it boosts you’re grade, but you’re doing nothing for yourself. You don’t learn anything. If you get it wrong, then your grade goes down and you’ll realize that you did all of that for nothing. It’s a lose/lose situation. Do the right thing; study and know that your grade will be good because of your hard work.

Dear Lindsay,

I really hate school and I am doing really poorly. I am turning 16 soon and I am thinking about dropping out of school. What should I do?

-Drop out

Dear Drop out,

Dropping out is probably the worst thing you could ever do. There’s no reason to. If it’s hard I’m sorry, but other things in life are harder. You don’t pay for school; all you have to do is simply pay attention and do the work. Many jobs want a high school diploma on your resume. At 16, there is so much you can do. You’re still young. Talk to your parents or talk to a counselor. They can help you better.

Dear Lindsay,

My parents are getting divorced and I really don’t know what is going to happen. How should I talk to them about what is going on?

-Trouble at Home

Dear Trouble at Home,

I’m sorry to hear about your parents. I can only imagine how hard it is for you. Sometimes, divorce is what is completely best for a couple. It’s OK to be angry and confused. Just know that whatever the difference they could not get over was, it is not about you. If you can, just get them together and ask why things are going to be the way they are. Let them know you’re angry and confused. They’ll answer all your questions the best they can.
