Hollister council members Monday honored the victims of Friday’s shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Council members closed their regular meeting with a moment of silence before adjournment to honor the 26 victims who lost their lives. Councilman Victor Gomez suggested the moment of silence at the outset of the meeting.
Before that moment of silence to close the meeting, new Mayor Ignacio Velazquez spoke.
“I hope we can let the world know how much we care and how this all has to come to an end,” he said. “It’s just not fair to see children that young perish because of no reason. So if we could take a moment of silence for them.”
