Hollister Police Officer Christopher Wells received a California Hero Award from Mothers Against Drunk Driving at the group’s annual banquet April 18 because he made 27 driving under the influence arrests in 2008, according to a press release from the Hollister Police Department.

The banquet was held in Sacramento and honored officers throughout the state for efforts in enforcing DUI laws.

Wells was the HPD’s nominee for the award and was honored due to the high number of arrests he made. He was given a plaque and uniform pin for the honor.

The Hollister department also was given a plaque recognizing its efforts to “stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking,” according to the press release.
