There is a wide misconception in the Bay Area that our Hollister
weather is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. When I moved
here in 1982 from San Jose, I was told this by my neighbors. Since
then we have had some cold winters and some hot summers but never
more than a few days at a time.
There is a wide misconception in the Bay Area that our Hollister weather is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. When I moved here in 1982 from San Jose, I was told this by my neighbors. Since then we have had some cold winters and some hot summers but never more than a few days at a time. Most of the time we are blessed by an onshore breeze that reaches us from a gap in the coastal range. Even if it gets hot or cold by midday, the air usually kicks in by 3 p.m. and temperatures moderate. Many times over the years, I have been tempted to install central air but it always cooled in a few days.
For years I have noted gross errors in the San Jose Mercury News predictions of Hollister temperatures, particularly in the summer. They equate us with Gilroy which does not have the benefit of the ocean breeze. I note that the Free Lance now uses the same weather forecast service. I believe that we have a resident weatherman at our airport. He may not be able to provide the pictorial attributes but maybe can be more accurate on forecasts and actual temperatures.
