Just a few weeks after serving a Thanksgiving dinner to more than 300 visitors, the Holte Holiday dinner committee is preparing for its annual Christmas dinner on December 25.
The dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the same number of guests expected to show for the meal.
“It went real well as far as the dinner,” said Larry Brown, one of the coordinators of the Thanksgiving meal. “We fed over 300 people – a lot of people showed up hungry and they left full.”
In the month before the Thanksgiving dinner, the committee was worried that they might be short on the funding needed to feed 300 guests. But with monetary donations from the community, Brown said they had enough to pull it off. Now they are in need of donations to support the Christmas dinner.
“We were short on money and this is Hollister,” Brown said. “People found out we needed money and people stepped up and helped.”
In addition to monetary donations, which the committee can use to purchase food and supplies in bulk, they are also in need of volunteers on Dec. 24 and 25.
Brown said volunteers will be needed starting at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, at the O’Reilly Youth Center, at Sacred Heart. Monday evening will be devoted to setting up and prepping for the meal, while Tuesday morning will be devoted to cooking the food, serving it and cleaning up.
