Pamela Pirtle, owner of Hollister Flowers, 843 San Benito St., has the newest store front to become part of the renaissance taking place downtown.

Growing up in Lorraine, Ohio, Pirtle’s passion for flowers started on her parents rural six-acre home, where her father routed a small creek from a natural spring on the property, and built wooden bridges to walk across it, while fields of violets grew abundantly.

“It was a fairy-tale,” Pirtle said.

After receiving her degree in horticulture from the Ohio State University, Pirtle touched on many aspects of the horticulture business, from green houses, indoor mall landscaping to a plant maintenance business.

“My passion has always been flowers,” Pirtle said.

After visiting some close friends in California, Pirtle decided to pack her things and move, eventually making her way to Hollister.

“It’s a great place to raise my children and there’s so many nice people here,” she said.

Working out of her home for the past 14 years, Pirtle took the leap and is know in her first commercial space.

“It’s an adorable building,” she said.

With it’s European country feel, Hollister Flowers is a quaint full-service floral shop with arrangements of flowers for any occasion at any time. They also specialized in silk flower designs, with an array of vintage pieces for sale. Customers who are looking at floral arrangements for that speacial someone or event, on July first, Hollister Flowers will be having a partner come in to the store who will add an extra bit of ambiance to the already serene atmosphere, with an official grand opening expected.

“I just want people to benefit from flowers,” Pirtle said.
