HOLLISTER – A benefit spaghetti dinner next Thursday, March 13, will help the family of a young Hollister-area girl undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma – bone cancer.
“Dinner for Diana” will take place from 5-8:30 at Spring Grove School.
Diana Magana is a seventh-grade student at Spring Grove.
Tickets are $20 per family, and for people who choose to show support for the Magana family by eating together at the school gym it’s an all-you-can-eat feast of spaghetti, salad, rolls and drinks. To-go dinners will be portioned for families of four.

Free CPR class
HOLLISTER – The American Red Cross is offering free adult cardio-pulmonary resuscitation classes this Saturday, March 8 at two locations.
Spanish language classes will be at the Red Cross office, 357 Fifth St. in Hollister. English classes are nearby at the YMCA Center, 339 Fifth St.

Filmmakers unite
HOLLISTER – Filmmakers, start your cameras. The San Benito County Arts council, the Weekend Pinnacle and Gavilan College are hosting a student film festival. Students have until Sept. 1, 2008 to submit their applications and films. Films should be 3 to 30 minutes long and produced after Sept. 1, 2006. Winning films will premier at the Student Film Festival – Director in the classroom, Oct. 18, 2008 at the Granada Theater in Hollister. For more information, visit www.sanbenitoarts.org.
Community Media Access Partnership staff will be hosting video training classes for free at San Benito High School. Women’s Club to meet
HOLLISTER – The Women’s Club of Hollister will hold its monthly luncheon and meeting Wednesday, March 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. This month’s meeting will feature “Books Aloud,” a library program for the sight-impaired. The Women’s Club is a member of the Greater Federated Women’s Clubs, one of the oldest women’s volunteer groups in the country. The meeting is open to the public. Dems hold monthly meeting

Grad night committee holds fundraiser
HOLLISTER – San Benito High School’s Sober Grad Night Committee will host a fundraising event Thursday, March 13. Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream and Papa Murphy’s Pizza will donate a percentage of all sales from regularly priced items purchased between the hours of 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Coupons are required and will be available at the door of both businesses.
Independent study program accepting applications
HOLLISTER – San Benito High School’s Independent Study program is now accepting applications for the fall 2008 semester. The program is geared for students whose needs may be best met through study outside the regular classroom setting. Each student meets once a week for a one-on-one meeting with a teacher, and may also participate in small group tutorial sessions.
