Hollister boxer slated to compete for vacant WIBA Super

Usually giving up a few pounds to her opponents, Kelsey “The Road Warrior” Jeffries is scheduled to fight for the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association’s Super Batamweight (118-122 pounds) title later this year in Atlantic City at the Casino Battle Royale event, according to a release by WIBA President Ryan Wissow and Jarvis Robinson, CEO of Fight Night Productions.
Fresh off her last Featherweight fight, in which Jeffries gave up nearly four pounds to her opponent, the Super Bantamweight division is considered to be the Hollister fighter’s ideal weight class.
Jeffries’ opponent is expected to be announced within the upcoming weeks.
“It’s so good to have a top class fighter like Kelsey on the show. Boy, can that girl fight,” Robinson said. “I was watching some video of her and I’m seriously impressed. She’s the style of fighter I like: All action from start to finish.”
Jeffries (41-9-1), who weighed in at 120.5 pounds in her last Featherweight fight on June 11 against Jessica “Goodnite” Mohs, struggled to keep the weight on during her training. She was said to be approximately 123 pounds at the bell in that fight, but was still short of Mohs’ 126.5 pounds.
Despite the weight difference, though, Jeffries, the IFBA Featherweight champion, knocked out Mohs in the fourth round.
“She is one of the hardest working fighters that I ever trained,” said Jeffries’ trainer, Buddy McGirt, “and she’s the best out there at her weight.”
