San Benito girls golf team shoots eight strokes better than
their previous match, but lose to Salinas, 173-192
SALINAS

Although the San Benito girls golf squad improved their season-low team score by eight strokes on Tuesday, this year’s surprise team in Salinas proved to be a step ahead.

The Lady ‘Balers carded a 192 on Tuesday in Salinas but fell Cowboys on the road. Salinas finished with a 173.

Salinas’ Taylor Camany was the medalist with a 39.

San Benito’s Yumi Kimura led the Lady ‘Balers with a 46. Jordan Davies recorded a 48 and teammates Jenny Glosser and Katie Moeller each shot a 49. Nicole Rianda compiled a 51 for San Benito and Kendall Archer’s 55 rounded out the team.

The 192 score, though, is yet another improvement for the team, which shot a 200 at their last match against Everett Alvarez. Prior to that, San Benito carded a 218 against Gilroy.

“It’s getting better,” coach Chris Branon said. “It’s going south. I like it.”

Aside from Camany’s 39, Salinas’ Keegan Dominguez finished with a 41, Taylor Dominguez a 46, Corrine Ow a 47 and Jill Strange a 48. Cowboy Caroline Andrus rounded out the team with a 56.

San Benito will play Watsonville, Pacific Grove and Live Oak at CordeValle on Thursday. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.
