San Benito now 4-3 overall, at Live Oak Tuesday
SAN JOSE

The San Benito girls water polo team went 2-2 at the Wilcox Tournament last weekend, finishing in fifth place.

The Lady ‘Balers went 1-2 in pool play on Saturday, opening up the tournament with a win over San Lorenzo Valley and a loss to Homestead.

No scores were reported.

Rounding out pool play was a 12-5 loss to Pioneer, which used a six-goal second quarter to open up a comfortable lead.

“In both games we lost, we played a good first quarter and a good fourth quarter,” said coach Hayley Vandercook, who felt that if her team played consistently, a trip to the championship final was within reach. “They could have won both games, but they did it too late.”

In the fifth- and sixth-place game against Notre Dame of Belmont, San Benito delivered a 9-8 victory.

The Lady ‘Balers are no 4-3 overall. They’ll play at Live Oak Tuesday at 5 p.m.
