Learn how to produce a show

GILROY –– Local television station Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) is looking for residents of Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista to become producers, cast and crew members of their own television shows.

CMAP invites the public to tour the facilities at an orientation and find out how to get involved with the nonprofit community television station. After attending an orientation and signing up for membership, folks are encouraged to enroll in CMAP’S “Fast Track” workshops. Available to members only, there are six free basic video production workshops and four low cost advanced workshops that teach participants how to create their own shows.

CMAP cablecasts programming on four separate channels – live, local government meetings and other civic programs on City/View, Channel 17; college classes and events on the Gavilan Channel, GAV-TV Channel 18; educational series and coverage of local school events for pre-school to post-secondary on ED-TV, Channel 19 and shows produced by residents of the three cities on the public access Channel 20.

To sign up for an orientation workshop call (408) 846-4983. For more information about CMAP membership, the station’s mission or production workshops, visit their Web site at www.mycmap.org or call (408) 846-4983.

Raffle to benefit HHH Auxiliary

DVDs, Giants tickets, motorized scooters, Igloo coolers, hammocks, wine, boogie boards, gift certificates, CD players: These are just a few of the items available in theme baskets that are being raffled off for the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary’s Annual Luncheon on May 19. Tickets are currently on sale at the front desk of the hospital. Tickets are available for $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets will be on sale through May 18.

Each year the hospital employees come up with ideas for the basket themes, then individual departments gather items and put the baskets together.

Proceeds from the basket raffle benefit the HHH Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is a philanthropic organization that donates money to the hospital and health care district to purchase equipment, assist with construction costs and the refurbishment of various hospital areas. From the year 2003 through March 2004, the Auxiliary has donated more than $200,000 to the hospital. They also provide $10,000 in scholarships annually for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

This year at their Spring Luncheon on May 19, they will present a check to hospital CEO Ken Underwood for $25,000. This represents income from the Auxiliary Thrift Shop, the Hospital Gift Shop.
