Next time you’re watching a PGA or LPGA Tour event, perhaps the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club, pay close attention to how some of the pros place the ball on the putting green.
You’ll notice some of them spending a little extra time positioning the ball on the green. What they’re doing is positioning the logo of the ball, or a line they have drawn on the ball, to help to align the putter to the hole.
Some of the ball manufactures already have the line drawn on the ball. There is a teaching aid on the market called, “The Straight-Line,” which allows you to draw a perfect line on the ball. This reassures you that you’re aimed correctly, giving you confidence that will start the ball on the correct line.
Practice this technique before you take it to the course. It will take some time getting use to.
The rules will allow you to reposition the ball as long as there is a coin placed behind it. Once you lift the coin, the ball is in play, or you’ll be in breach of the rule.
