Dear Editor,
Our daughter started at San Benito High School as a freshman in August 2010. Immediately she started to be bullied by the girls on her sports team. We try to teach our kids not to quit something they have committed to, but everyday, she was crying and not sleeping. We did allow her to quit. We spoke to her coach and counselor and they assured us that if she would re-join the team, they would “have her back”. Well, they never had her back and these girls were relentless, even throwing things at her head after they found out that she has had multiple surgeries on it.
The sport ended and that gave way to extreme bullying by others on the school campus. We went through all the proper channels and have enough reports to wallpaper a living room. Nobody ever did a thing to help us deal with this situation. I finally, briefly heard from the Principal, but there was never any consequences for these girls actions, except useless write ups.
I requested a transfer and was told, they are maxed out on transfers. Gee really? Not surprised.
I asked if our daughter was to continue at this school being bullied every single day and I was basically told “yes”, while I wait for my denial letter in the mail and then file an appeal which could all take months.
Our daughter became quiet, not sleeping well, and her grades went from A’s to C’s. She did not want to get out of bed in the mornings to go to school.
What happened to the Zero tolerance San Benito High School claims to have? These kids need to be held accountable for their actions.
We did get that transfer (not easily) and our daughter is back to her old goofy self. Laughing, sleeping, getting A’s again, and very excited and happy at her new school.
