July 4th is coming. That is the anniversary of declaring independence from the tyrannical British government. My how things have changed.
We now have our governments dictating to the people at every level, similar to the British 250 years ago.
It was eight, maybe 10, years ago when the federal government effectively outlawed the incandescent light bulb. The government killed an industry that had served consumers for over 100 years. We now import light bulbs loaded with mercury. Government regulations make it too difficult to manufacture them in the United States.
A few years later, the federal government decided which insurance companies, auto companies, and mortgage companies were to fail or not fail with selective bailouts. Â
The Corp of Engineers is trying to control all water, even the water in your pond for your cattle. That will not be a problem. The San Benito County General Plan environmental goals will require the cattle population in the county to be reduced to about 20% of the current level.
The California state legislature has decided that all children must have vaccinations. Parents have no choice.
Even the Hollister City Council has decided it knows better than consumers, dictating who can and cannot sell tobacco products.
Recent rulings of the United States Supreme Court have effectively declared the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution unconstitutional. Frightening!!! Which one will be next? First? Second? San Benito County recently violated the Fifth Amendment with Measure J.
The Declaration of Independence provides us the ability to be able to pursue happiness. That includes the right to fail. It is not the government’s place to pick winners and losers. The United States seems to be divided into two classes of people, those in government making the laws and those in the rest of the country.
