Our readers need to know an important fact omitted by Marty Richman in his opinion concerning Iran and the agreement signed by the United States plus Great Britain, France, Germany and four other signature countries. All eight find it agreeable and a workable situation for stability in the Middle East.
It’s important to know the fact that Iran signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Agreement in the early 50s. President Eisenhower gave Iran nuclear reactors. The project was called, “Atoms For Peace.” Presently Iran’s nuclear framework remains well within International Agreements.
This Non-Proliferation Treaty allows more stability in the Middle East except for one country. The unmentioned fact is that Israel never signed this Non-Proliferation Agreement and developed a secret arsenal of nuclear weapons. Israel’s own tendency to invade Lebanon and Gaza causes grave upset and concern in the Middle East.
Israel’s rhetorical fear of attack is unfounded because Iran would never permit a self-annihilation action. Iran proves trustworthy because they are reaching out for agreements and peace. The real facts emphasize this. Agreement with the new negotiations plus enforcement of the Non-Proliferation Treaty needs to be paramount for all. Remember that Iran is supporting oppositional forces against ISIL actually already making Iran an ally. Those in our own country need this reminder as we continue this negotiating procedure on the path to peace.
