Upset about branding
Dear Editor,
I am having a very hard time understanding the latest lame idea to spend limited cash resources paying for a firm to come up with “branding” ideas for Hollister. I agree, we need to boost tourism and bring more cash into our town. What I don’t understand is the complete denial of our city leaders that we are already well known world-wide; branded if you will as: The Birthplace of the American Biker. One can type in those words in any search engine and guess what happens? One is led straight to Hollister via the Internet!
We are no longer the Hay Capitol. We are and always will be known world wide as the town where the American Biker concept began. We are revered as a Holy Mecca of sorts in motorcycle history. Why can’t we just embrace what we already are known for? Why can’t the leaders understand that we have a Golden Goose who will lay a Golden Egg for us every single summer that we hold a Rally. We have not handled this task in the past to it’s peak financial capability but with some better planning and hard work we can and should be able to reap the same benefits that Sturgis sees. The Sturgis Rally is the center-piece South Dakota’s tourism packages. City leaders should be working with the likes of Sam Farr and the state tourism board and our surrounding communities who also benefit from our Hollister Rally.
Can we please re-think this expenditure and for once work with what we already have, a solid “brand” as The Birthplace of the American Biker. It is a personal goal of mine to restore our town’s respect and honor the heritage it is known for.Â

Enjoyed hospital headline
Dear Editor,
Loved the sub headline on your report of Hazel Hawkins Hospital “Hazel Hawkins fares better than most in 2009, though deaths are up year-to-year for Hollister Hospital,”
Thank God flu, gout, and hang nails are in check at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. Now if they could do something about the rise in those pesky deaths.
