Keep the faith?
Bush, McCain urge America not to lose faith during these tough
economic times. Both men agree that we can turn the economy around
if we give better and bigger tax cuts to the oil companies. They
also agree that our medical care problems can be solved by the
guarantee of increased profits for drug and insurance companies.
Seems pretty simple. Hallelujah!

‘Wizard’ of a production
Last evening my husband and I went to see our granddaughter, Bailey Greenup, in the San Benito Stage Company production of The Wizard of Oz.
We went as grandparents, and left completely entranced by the wonderful evening of local theater.
I want to encourage everyone who reads this to pack up the family and go to the Granada Theater in downtown Hollister for a great experience and a fun family time.
Your community should be very proud of the work being done by these talented and dedicated folks.

Rally getting better
Wow! What a weekend! I have been hearing for months,” Why did they move the rally off of the fourth of July weekend?” I should have posted my response on my bulletin board in four-inch lettering.
The extra law enforcement was easier to come by and it gives us a better opportunity to get bigger sponsors like Jack Daniels. Bigger sponsors mean more money, more money means better entertainment, better entertainment means a better rally.
I wish I had a dime for every time I was told that moving the rally date would kill it. My response was always the same. We are going to have two great weekends instead of one. I was not disappointed.
On the fourth of July weekend a fantastic group of Boozefighters were here to keep up their tradition. They had a great time and were thrilled to park their motorcycles in front of the bar and not have to wait in line to get in. They will probably make it an annual event.
During the rally the people were great. Law enforcement came through many times and checked IDs to make sure we were doing our job. They were friendly and gave us the thumbs up to let us know that they were happy. They visited with people and made them feel welcome. I heard that the music was great. The word was that the beer garden was charging way too much for a beer which made people even happier to drink with us. My bartenders made great money and needless to say so did I.
I could never get through a rally without my awesome team and I am so grateful for them. I want to thank Seth Doulton and Horse Power and the Chamber for a really good show. The big complaint is that people want to see a bunch of bikes in one place. I say we make East Street from Fifth to Seventh motorcycle parking only next year. We don’t have to put motorcycles in the middle of the road which is what made it so dangerous. Just park them on either side of the street and give people a place to cruise and check out lots of motorcycles.
As for us at Johnny’s it was one of the most profitable and definitely the smoothest run rallies we have ever had. My only complaint is that last year’s corn dog guy didn’t come back and he had the best corn dog I’ve ever had in my life.

A direct hit on growth
Mark Dickson hit the bull’s eye with his questions in your center op-ed piece this weekend. Those questions merit hard thinking for good answers. Especially important was the need for infill and the amount of space for development inside Hollister that would benefit Hollister.
Let’s work on answers to his questions and we will announce date and place when we plan to show the documentary/drama “Save Our Town/Save Our Land” and the “End of Suburbia.”
