Praise for San Tran Drivers and service
Recently, on one of my bus rides, my wallet must have fallen out
of my purse. Needless to say, when I first discovered it missing
that evening, I was frightened and frustrated. I emptied out
everything in my purse. I checked jacket pockets and I rewound my
day in my head to determine when I must have lost the small wallet.
Then I made a list of my cards and driver license. I called the
doctor’s office where I’d used my wallet last and left a message
with their answering service.
The next morning I called San Tran. The dispatcher said they had
my wallet in the office and they would deliver it to my house. What
a relief!
I am grateful for the friendly, helpful drivers: the fixed route
service and the Dial-a-Ride, also. San Tran has the routes around
Hollister, the Dial-a-Ride and bus routes to San Juan Bautista and
Gilroy.
I like the red line especially because I have to walk everyday
and I can walk along San Benito and enjoy the window shopping, and
stop and rest a minute on one of the benches. I can also see what’s
new with the Chamber of Commerce or the Downtown Association.
To see more of our county, and save gas and traffic headaches,
ride the bus! The wild flowers and orchards are lovely this time of
year in our county.
Many thanks again to the drivers for their professionalism and
friendliness.

Thank you from bottom of our hearts

We would like to thank everyone for all of the kind words of sympathy during our time of sorrow. The overwhelming support our family has received is a reflection of Matt’s involvement in the community and the people he touched in his everyday life. We have found that he touched some lives that none of us were aware of, which is a testament to who he was. We would also like to thank those that have donated, sent flowers and food – the list goes on and on.

Matthew was a loving son and brother, a devoted husband, an awesome dad and a great friend to many. We know that we will see him again, and that he rests in the loving arms of our Lord.

Much love and gratitude.

End cycle of violence

After unfolding the Pinnacle to Section B, the front color photo took my breath away! Immediately I felt a connection with those unfortunate enough to find themselves in the cross hairs of camouflaged, dark, menacing figures. My instinct was to throw up my arms in surrender. This was only from observing the photo. Upon reading the description I felt for our youthful students upon whose campus this training took place.

I am wondering what exactly is the message we are giving our youth. Is it to frighten them to prevent another Columbine? Is it to show force as the only solution for troubled youth? I marvel at how well our youth perform when many bear unbelievable violence and alienation in their homes before starting each school day.

When our youth are shown that violence may solve violent behavior, what happens to their understanding, their creativity, their individuality, and their response to the community? How can they make sense out of an economy structured on violence? Who is there to teach them the way out of this vicious cycle of violence?

Hidden tax costs

In his first speech to the nation as president, Barack Obama said that 95 percent of the people (those earning less than $250,000) a year will not pay one dime more in taxes. This could be true:

Unless you use electricity … Unless you use fuel oil … Unless you use natural gas … Unless you use gasoline/diesel

What isn’t being talked about is the bill now before Congress to raise energy costs through taxes! Our energy use will be taxed.

Now, let’s just look at one area that would be affected; our super markets. They are well lit, with many refrigerated and frozen display cases. Their electrical bills have to be in the thousands of dollars. Now, do you think they will absorb this increase or will they pass it on to the consumer, who would be all of us? If you think they will absorb it, then I have a bridge I want to see you or maybe some beach-front property here in Hollister!
