Hollister Needs Jobs, Not More Homes for Commuters

Editor,

Recent letter to the editor have promoted developing Hollister as something great, wonderful and valuable for its future and the children of Hollister.

However, I do not see how building more bedrooms for northern cities will benefit Hollister. We will still have discipline problems in the high school, gangs, crowded classrooms, heavy traffic and long lines of cars headed north from Hollister each morning.

And therein lies the real problem – Hollister needs more skilled jobs, not more houses. I have not seen any homeless people on our streets, so I must conclude that the people who are here already have places to live.

Rather than pour concrete and asphalt over our farms and ranch land by building more homes, let’s entice light manufacturing and assembly plants to relocate here. That would greatly improve our local economy and diminish the traffic going north each morning.
