Why Criticize City Manager for Trying to Save Money?
Why Criticize City Manager for Trying to Save Money?
Editor,
I find it odd that two people can read the same letter and get two completely different ideas from it.
I read the letter from City Manager Clint Quilter (“City Saving Money by Buying New Leaf Loading Machine,” Jan. 12). What I understood it to say was that the new leaf blower would save the city money because it reduced the staff required to clean up fallen leaves.
Another reader who wrote a letter to the editor (“City’s Spending Priority Should Be Public Safety, Not Leaf Loader,” Jan. 18) comes up with the opinion that Mr. Quilter would rather have a fancy new machine than spend money on the safety of Hollister citizens.
I am also amazed that apparently people from all walks of life all of a sudden think that they are better qualified to run the City of Hollister than people with experience and education to do so.
Of course we as citizens need to know the reasons behind their decisions and keep checks on them. However, if citizens cannot trust our city manager to make a wise fiscal decision in regards to buying a leaf blower, we are in bigger trouble than I thought.
To Mr. Quilter and others that work for the city, I say, “Hang in there.” I know your job cannot be easy even in the best of times.
