It Must Be Nice to Live in a Little Bubble
It Must Be Nice to Live in a Little Bubble
Editor,
I am writing in response to the article “Measure R Behind,” (Nov. 8), in which one Hollister resident was quoted, “I don’t really do much more than live in the city. … I don’t use too many of the services.”
Does this mean that she will not need the police if she is attacked or her house is robbed? That it will not concern her to drive past parks filled with weeds and dead grass? Apparently, increased gang activity, graffiti, etc., will not bother her as she travels to and from her home in her little bubble.
I am disappointed that it appears Measure R is failing, but I am utterly depressed to find out that close to 50 percent of Hollister’s residents either view this town as simply a place to camp out for the night or are so distrustful of the city government that they refuse to allow it to function effectively. With these types of attitudes Hollister ceases to be a community. Indeed, this city is a far cry from the Hollister I moved to 12 years ago that was considered, “A great place to raise children.”
For those of you who supported Measure R, thank you for trying to keep this community not only a great place to raise children, but also a great place to “live,” not just sleep.

Big-Bucks Campaign Felled by the Voters of Hollister
Editor,
The “Yes on S” committee spent about $700,000 and the “No on S” committee spent about $7,000.
It looks like David has beaten Goliath!
“Nuff said!”

Diatribe Against Rap Music Reminds One of an Earlier Era
Editor,
In regards to Peter Frusetta’s article about rap music. I’ll always remember coming home from four years in the USAF, walking into the state theater to see the movie “The Blackboard Jungle” and the music “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and his Comets.
That music took us to the moon and back in our era.

Failure of Measure S Spares Hollister of ‘Total Greed’
Editor,
It is truly a great day in Hollister, now that Measure S has failed!
I sense a little bitterness and a sore loser in Mr. Mike Serpa, of Del Webb Homes. Hopefully the residents of Hollister will see this as what is was: a case in complete and total greed by a landowner and potential builder. If, and when, the building moratorium is lifted, residents of Hollister should remember the underhandedness of the Measure S campaign, and not welcome or support Del Webb or Pulte Homes.
