Time to Address Some Social Ills in Our Society
Editor,
As a father and a grandfather I am concerned about some social trends in our state and nation.
Not long ago statistics indicated a rise in crime especially the Bay Area. And the scourge of drugs continues, and now, right here in our own county. Our jails are full, the courts clogged. The question is why?
I believe several factors are the cause, and there is something we can do about it.
1. Television and other media that glamorizes immorality and lawlessness and make light of basic Christian principles are in the living rooms of every house. Write networks and sponsors that air trashy programs, protest, boycott and complain.
2. Public high schools allow students to dress in almost any way that suits their fancy. I see the many security people as I drive by Hollister High. There were no such people when I attended there. Write the trustees and school officials, tell them how you feel and what you want them to do.
3. Encourage parenting classes and advise young couples of how important they are as guides and role models for their children. Love and communication is so important in the first six years of a child’s life. Young parents should be very aware of this and understand that their children need love just as much as they need food and clothing.
4. We sacrifice a lot in the name of freedom. I refer to the smut that comes out of that industry in Southern California. The idea of freedom can and is abused and twisted for the sake of selling filth. See through these evil people’s phony arguments and refute them.
5. It is a shame we can’t shelter our children from the corruption of these evils but we cannot. They must live within the peer pressure of fellow students and in the society they find themselves. The answer is to be good role models and offer our loved ones wise and frequent council.
6. May we, you and I, take up the fight to help turn our society to a wholesome direction.
